| 18mm Post-1812 Napoleonic French Infantry | Most of the Napoleonic gamers we know like their armies to be ‘just so’ for the particular campaigns and battles they want to re-create, with their troops accurately represented in the correct uniforms. Unfortunately military fashion is often fickle, and uniforms can change radically during the course of a long period of military activity such as the Wars of the French Revolution and the campaigns of Napoleon Bonaparte. These uniform changes can make life rather difficult for gamers and miniatures manufacturers alike! Not surprisingly, most 15/18mm ranges of French Napoleonic figures tend to concentrate on campaigns between the late 1790’s and 1812 when the only significant uniform change needed to be addressed is the replacement of the bicorn in favour of the shako. However, the great battles fought towards the end of the Napoleonic Wars saw the French Infantry wearing a significantly different style of uniform, which many miniatures ranges do not represent.
The Bardin Regulation uniform was introduced at the beginning of 1812 with its distinctive short tailed jacket and ‘plastron’ lapels which extended to the waist, covering the previously exposed waist coat. The issuing of the new uniform was inevitably subject to delays and many battalions were still wearing the old uniform when they marched off to Russia later that year, but the Bardin uniform prevailed among the reformed regiments of 1813, and was universally worn by 1814. Our new range should therefore interest anyone contemplating battles such as Leipzig, Dresden, or especially Waterloo, and Alan Marsh has carefully sculpted them to be compatible in size (18mm) and style with the splendid AB Figures 15/18mm Napoleonic range (which we cast under licence at Eureka Miniatures). These figures will of course go beautifully with our existing range of post 1812 Napoleonic British infantry, wearing the distinctive belgic shako.
Here are the catalogue details for the new miniatures –
