| 28mm Beowulf in action | Our first release of Beowulf and his retinue featured everyone standing around looking mean and intimidating, but there was not a lot of fighting going on. With these new figures, you can send Beowulf and his companions into the thick of the action! Each figure is identical to its original version, but is now available in a fighting or action pose.

Sculptor Alan Marsh (something of a Dark Age enthusiast) has designed our range of Beowulf figures to be in keeping with their proper historical and geographical setting (generally agreed to be southern Scandinavia in the 5th or 6th Centuries AD). All the figures are equipped with an authentic mixture of early Dark Age dress, weapons and armour, demonstrating a variety of Late Roman, Frankish, Germanic and Eastern Baltic influences - and in one case from even further afield. (Archaeology has demonstrated Scandinavian trade links with the Middle East during this period).

Collectors can play out their own Anglo-Saxon epic and embark with Beowulf once more in search of kingly fame and adventure. Alternatively, all these miniatures will fit very well into any early Dark Age army, adding some extra charisma and muscle to your King's personal retinue. Just the thing, we think, for the new Saga wargaming rules from Gripping Beast - which you can order from us here. You can buy the figures as a complete Beowulf in action set, or (with other the Dark Age applications in mind) you can simply pick out the miniatures you prefer and purchase them individually. All the original more passive versions of each figure are of course still available (again - as a set or individually).

Also forming part of this release is our 28mm figure of legendary Celtic hero Cú Chulainn - a miniature we especially commissioned from sculptor Jody Siegel of Imbrian Arts (check out his excellent figures on his website here). Cú Chulainn is a hero of pre-Christian Irish Mythology and the stories of the Ulster Cycle. A mighty warrior of great renown, he was infamous for his terrible battle frenzies (or ríastrad) which according to the legends were so intense and violent they contorted his human form and temporarily rendered him a monster! Our figure shows Cú Chulainn in dramatic pose, on the brink of ríastrad, about to hurl himself on his enemies. In keeping with Celtic heroic traditions he fights naked (so some parental discretion might be advisable here as far as our younger customers are concerned).

And staying with the nudity theme (but hopefully not gratuitously) we thought this might be a good time to introduce you all to Alan Marsh's lovely interpretation of Lady Godiva in 28mm. Anglo-Saxon aristocrat, champion of the people, and proto-feminist exhibitionist - according to legend she rode naked through the streets of Coventry to shame her husband into lowering the oppressive taxes he had imposed on the people. Mind you, a proclamation was issued beforehand ordering everyone to stay indoors and close their shutters! Unlike Beowulf and Cú Chulainn, Godiva can be identified as a real historical figure living around the middle of the Eleventh Century and the time of the Norman Conquest, but her famous nude demonstration is difficult to verify in the sources.
Here are the codes and details for the new figures and details of our special offers.
